Smirnoff presented a powerful exhibition at Kalanjee House, Colaba, during the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival — featuring works by photographers from the queer community. The exhibit centered on portraying the chosen families of individuals from the hijra community, highlighting the deep bonds formed beyond traditional structures.
Many members of the hijra community experience rejection or distance from their biological families due to societal stigma. Through a series of intimate portraits, the exhibition sought to celebrate the resilience, love, and connection that define their chosen families — the communities they’ve built and belong to.
